"The Rebuilds are Evangelion for fanboys and people who…"
(I can't complete the sentence. This is in reference to a self-torture session where we watch Bennettthesage's 3 hour video on the history of Evangelion where he shares a more measured opinion on it than in his previous, more CA-y reviews. I thought "didn't get Evangelion" but it's more than that. A lot of people superficially "get" Evangelion (but still don't get it completely.) He seems more neutral on the series, occasionally praising it despite also criticizing it for stupid things. His critiques of the Rebuilds are treated as small potatoes compared to his Evangelion hang-ups despite the blatant retardation. He praises Gendo getting interrupted from meeting Shinji by an angel as the best dramatic beat in the franchise which is just astounding. We didn't finish it but it unironically felt like he liked the Rebuilds more than the original. Daily reminder that they Woodstock^2'd Ritsuko.

)
Hate the tone/direction/structure of Evangelion but feel obligated to appreciate it? Closer to it but not very succinct.

To me, 25/26 and EoE leave a lot to be desired and the Rebuilds are just like "This is a different thing for different people." The question is who and sure "People who thought the mystery and intrigue of Evangelion were meaningless elements" is a part of it but…
